Report of a parent survey of cannabidiol-enriched cannabis use in pediatric treatment -resistant epilepsy

From the abstract:

The average number of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) tried before using cannabidiol-enriched cannabis was 12. Sixteen (84{03c6ed9c7292793a5635106886a6facae0686a7e7bfbe6c29280aa83fc7d030a}) of the 19 parents reported a reduction in their childs seizure frquency while taking cannabiol-enriched cannabis. Of these, two (11{03c6ed9c7292793a5635106886a6facae0686a7e7bfbe6c29280aa83fc7d030a}) reported complete seizure freedom, eight (42{03c6ed9c7292793a5635106886a6facae0686a7e7bfbe6c29280aa83fc7d030a}) reported a greater that 80{03c6ed9c7292793a5635106886a6facae0686a7e7bfbe6c29280aa83fc7d030a} reduction in seizure frequency, and six (32{03c6ed9c7292793a5635106886a6facae0686a7e7bfbe6c29280aa83fc7d030a}) reported a 25-60{03c6ed9c7292793a5635106886a6facae0686a7e7bfbe6c29280aa83fc7d030a} seizure reduction. Other beneficial effects included increased alertness, better mood, and improved sleep.

This review is focused on the therapeutic effects of cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive native cannabinoid, as an emerging and novel therapeutic modality in ophthalmology based on systematic sstudies in animal models of inflammatory retinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy-a retinal disease associated with vascular-neuroinflammation. Cannabidiol incubation improved acetylcholine responses in the arteries of Zucker Diabetic Fatty rats (aorta and femoral) and Zucker lean (aorta, femoral and G3 mesenteric), and this effects was greater in the Zucker Diabetic Fatty rat. These studies suggest that increased circulating endocannabinoids may alter vascular function both positively and negatively in type 2 diabetes, and that part of the beneficial effect of cannabidiol in diabetes may be due to improved endothelium-dependant vasorelaxation

The prevention of microglial accumulation and activation in the dorsal spinal cord was associated with limited development of a neuropathic pain state. Cannabinoids demostrated antinociceptive effects in this mouse model of [diabetic peripheral neuropathy]. These results suggest that such interventions may also benefit humans with [diabetic peripheral neuropathy], and their early introduction may also modify the deelopment of the [neuropathic pain] state.

Biochemical and immunohistochemical changes in delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol-treated type 2 diabetic rats

From the abstract:

…the area percent of glucagon immunoreactive cells showed a decrease in diabetic+delta9-THC rats compared to that of diabetic animals alone. Serum [total colesterol], HDL, and LDL levels of diabetes+delta9-THC group showed a decrease compared to the diabetic group. These results indicated that delta9-THC may serve a protective role against hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia in diabetic rats.
